Gareth W. "Ted" Smeltzer, of Windsor, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 7:55 pm at Memorial Hospital after a three month illness at the age of 82.
He was born in Windsor Boro on January 29, 1935 and was the son of the late Gurvis E. and Orpha O. (Tyson) Smeltzer
Ted graduated from the Red Lion High School, Class of 1953. He accepted a NROTC scholarship to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. In 1957, upon graduating with a Bachelor's Degree and honors from college, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marines. A twenty year active duty career followed, stationed in many different places, such as Japan, Okinawa, and Washington, DC. In 1977 he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After retiring from the military, he spent many years in Kearneysville, WV, where he pursued his hobbies of thoroughbred horse racing, farming and fishing. Approximately ten years ago, Ted returned to his hometown of Windsor.

Gareth is survived by two brothers, Michael A. Smeltzer of Windsor and Jerry L. Smeltzer of Indiana.

There will be no viewing. Services and burial for Gareth will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion will be assisting the family with the arrangements. Interment will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
