Kenneth "Ken" R. Thoman went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 30, 2016, with his wife by his side, at 1:50 p.m. at his residence at the age of 91. He was the husband of Shirley A. (Staub) Thoman of York.Kenneth was born in Codorus Twp. on December 30, 1924, and was the son of the late John A. and Ellen L. (Miller) Thoman.

Ken and his wife owned and operated the former New Way Cleaners in York for 18 years. After retiring, he worked part-time at Weis Markets at Green Springs Plaza and also at the East Market Street location. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in York.

Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley; a brother, Richard A. Thoman and his wife Fairy of York; a sister-in-law, Dolores M. Staub of York; numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert E., Raymond L., Victor A. and Earl W. Thoman; and a sister, Iva K. (Thoman) Glatfelter Shaffer; and his Irish Setters, Kelly, Casey and Duffy.

Viewings will be held Wednesday, May 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, and Thursday, May 5 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 2740 Roosevelt Ave., York. A Service of Honor and Praise for Ken will begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church. His pastor, Greg D. Wahlberg, will officiate. Family and friends are invited to meet at Jefferson Cemetery on Thursday at 2 p.m. for the committal service.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

Ken was a wonderful, loving husband to Shirley. They were married on May 24, 1953, celebrating 62 years together. He was her best friend and the love of her life. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was an avid New York Yankees fan. His Faith and Trust in his Lord and Savior was very important to him.Shirley would like to extend a very special thank you to Hospice and Community Care and all of the nurses and volunteers who helped in caring for Ken and also for the love and support from family members who were always close by with helping hands and hugs. She is very blessed to have wonderful family and friends.

In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still. In my heart I hold a place that only YOU can fill. Just remember that I need you, that the best of me is gone. Please don't fail to stand beside me, Love me till my life here is done. Until we meet again in Heaven, I will love you forever!
