Michael "Mike" H. Duke of York, went from life to Life Eternal on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 4:45 pm at Lebanon Veteran Medical Center at the age of 65. He was the loving husband to Sue A. (Kauffman) Duke of York, to whom he married on March 10, 1973, celebrating 44 years together.

Mike was born in Havre de Grace, MD on September 2, 1952 and was the son of the late Edward G. and M. Mazie (Michaels) Duke and the step son of Raymond Duke of York He was the owner and operator of the West York Inn for 18 years and owned two restaurants in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was a member of the Viking Athletic Association and enjoyed meeting every Sunday to play golf with his buddies for over 30 years. Mike was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Sue, and his Step Father, Raymond and a son, Chad D. Duke and his wife Jennifer of Abbingdon, MD, and daughter, Michele J. Chestnut and her husband Chasin of Little River, SC. He was a very proud grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Austen, Tyler, Koby, Kaleigh, Kayli, Dalton, Ethan and Ella. He was one of thirteen children, leaving four brothers, Paul Duke of Yoe, Buster Duke, Gary Duke and Sam Duke all of York and two sisters, Patti Shytle of Sunrise, FL and Hazel Brown of TN. His mother in law, Thelma J. Kauffman of York and three sisters in law and three brothers in law, along with several nieces and nephews and numerous friends in Myrtle Beach, SC. Mike was preceded in death by his six brothers, Martin, Robin, Danny, Bobby, David and John Duke.

Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. Family and friends are invited to extend their condolences on Thursday, October 5th from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. A Memorial Service to Honor and Praise Mike will begin at 7 pm with full military rites being offered by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Rev. Richard L. Bowers, pastor of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Emigsville will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to the National MS Society, 1501 Reedsdale Street., Suite 105, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.

Mike was a good husband, father and a doting grandfather who loved spending time with all of his grandchildren. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes THE BEST. Until we meet again, you will be in our hearts forever.
