After graduation she attended York Junior College receiving a degree as a Medical Secretary. She worked for Dr. McHenry and Dr. Eskridge who were located on Queen Street in York. She retired in 2008 after 58 faithful years of employment. Ruthie was a very active and faithful life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in York where she served on the Altar Guild and was a volunteer with the Cookie Walk.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane A. Whalen and her husband Gary of Red Lion. She was the grandmother to Lauren E. Kessler of Austin, TX and Heather E. Whalen of Richlands, VA. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway Red Lion. Ruthie was a wonderful mother and grandmother who cherished her family and spending time with them. As a young girl, Ruthie's family had a Bungalow by the Susquehanna River, where she spent her summers with her family and friends. She had a great up beat personality and was always smiling. Ruthie was a very positive person and loved to be around people sharing her love and going with the flow. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, her pool, traveling and horses especially The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness and the Belmont Stakes and never missed a chance to watch those with friends and family. We will miss you greatly, Until We Meet Again.
