Shirley M. (Gillespie) Vencill went home to be with her Heavenly Father, after a brief illness, with family by her side and Randal holding her hand, on Friday February 16, 2018 at 4:03 p.m. at York Hospital, at the age of 83. She was the wife of the late William Thomas Vencill who entered into rest on November 9, 2009.
She was born in Pisquea, Virginia in Smyth County on September 23, 1934 and was the daughter of the late General Grant and Helen Louise (Puckett) Gillespie.

Shirley attended the Pentecostal Church and was a saved Christian. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and word finds, bingo, adult coloring books and cooking, She worked at the New Park Cannery.

She leaves her three children, Thomas "Ed" Vencill and his companion Mary McDonald of Bridgeton, Linda D. Olivar of Yoe and Randal W. Vencill and his wife Juanita of Timberville, VA. She was the loving grandmother of 16 and great grandmother of 39 along with serveral great great grandchildren. Shirley was one of four children. She leaves a brother, Wayne Gillespie of Roanoke, VA and a sister, Rose Tatum of Wardell, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Norma Louise Amspacher and her son, William "Rick" Richard Vencill and a sister, Jean Criggar.

Viewings will be on Tuesday, February 20th from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, February 21st, from 9-10 am at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, PA . A Service of Honor and Praise for Shirley will begin at 10 am at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Golembiowski, of Windsor Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for funds to be donated to the funeral home to assist them with the funeral expenses during this difficult time.

Shirley was a great mother to her children and a doting grandmother. She lived to serve the Lord and will be waiting in her Father's house with open arms to greet each of you when He calls you home.
